James Dodds

Speaking on Sunday 30th June PM

I left school at fifteen after working on a Baltic trader and served a four-year apprenticeship a shipwright mainly working on Thames barges and barge boats in Maldon, Essex. I then had seven years at art school graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1984. Since the year 2000 my subject matter has been small vernacular craft of the British Isles, being fascinated by the regional variations of their shapes. The linocuts focus on boatyards and harbour towns that produce these unique boats. I like to think of my work celebrating the art of the boatbuilder.
